Brilliance China Automotive was initially established to hold a 51.0% interest in Shenyang Brilliance JinBei Automobile Co., Ltd. (formerly known as Shenyang JinBei Passenger Vehicle Manufacturing Company, Ltd.), or Shenyang Automotive, a Sino-foreign equity joint venture enterprise established on July 22, 1991. The remaining 49.0% interest in Shenyang Automotive was owned by Shenyang JinBei Automotive Company Limited (formerly Shenyang Brilliance Automotive Company Limited and FAW-JinBei Automotive Company Limited), or JinBei.
