SUEZ was formed in June 1997 by the merger of Compagnie de Suez and Lyonnaise des Eaux. At that time Compagnie de Suez, which had built and operated the Suez Canal in Egypt until its nationalization in 1956, was a highly diversified holding company with operating units in financial services and energy, largely in Belgium and France. Lyonnaise des Eaux was a diversified company, with activities in the management and treatment of water, waste, construction, communications, and technical facilities management. At the time of the merger, we gradually ceased to be a conglomerate, becoming an international industrial and services group. Today, we design sustainable and innovative solutions for the management of public utilities as a partner of public authorities, businesses and individuals.
